About

Before becoming a full-time editor, I was an academic researcher and taught in universities, schools, and prisons for 15 years.

I hold a BA (First-Class Honours) in philosophy from the University of Sydney (Australia) and a PhD in political theory from Northwestern University (US). During my PhD, I taught tutorials in a wide range of humanities and social science subjects including political science, legal studies, Slavic studies, global health, and classics. I also designed and taught political theory courses for four years at a maximum-security prison outside of Chicago. Following my PhD, I held full-time visiting professorships at two US universities.

I ultimately left academia and returned to my birth country of the UK to teach in schools. Driven by a desire to expand access to higher education, I taught A-Level politics for 5 years in state sixth forms in London.

I am an experienced author, having published an academic book with Routledge and numerous articles for both academic and mainstream outlets based in the US, the UK, and Australia.

Over the years, I have also served as a primary school governor, a trade union representative, and a volunteer with NGOs focused on refugee resettlement, criminal justice, and connective tissue disorders.

From these diverse professional and life experiences I have gained broad-ranging subject expertise, an understanding of the publishing process from the author’s point of view, and the ability to hone texts to speak to a variety of audiences.

When not focused on the written word, I enjoy gardening, cats, music, and cinema.
